Storytellers

The Storytellers are a group of volunteers from All Saints who go out each term to visit all the primary schools in the Mission Area with stories of Jesus and his ministry.

The scripts produced by the group are true to the New Testament, with the addition of a little bit of humour and historical fact. The emphasis is always on Jesus, as teacher, healer – and storyteller too!

Examples of the stories re-enacted include The Lost Sheep, The Wedding at Cana and The Calming of the Storm.

The cast wear costumes that reflect the clothing worn in the time of Jesus and the props also echo the kind of household items in use at the time.

Dramatising the stories in this way really brings each story to life.

The school staff always tell us how much the children look forward to our visits, and we can tell how much the children are concentrating and enjoying by their silence, their giggles and their responses which are often profound, and always delightful.

Children’s Club

For the children’s holiday/festival clubs, we take a story Jesus told or an event from his ministry and link it to a theme e.g. ‘Fisher’s of Men’ and we build a selection of activities around that theme.

Activities include imaginative play, small world play, puzzles, painting, clay, sand and water, cooking and art & craft which all reflect the story.

Sessions begin with the story and then the children are encouraged to explore and participate in the various activities.
At the end of the session, we recap the story and say a prayer before sharing lunch together.
